the kicks started as a collective of different musicians, electronic & instrumentalists, that gathered together under one roof just for the fun of it, coming together and jamming at their own expense. a jam is a jam. theres no aim, no target. it is free from expectations and just like that the tapes piled up with no specific style or genre lines. whatever happens, happens is pretty much the attitude that created a label, not out of necessity but out of convenience of being free to release the more outstanding cuts recorded, regardless of their personal definition. the first release is from the curators and creators of the project, maayan nidam & alex picone. the record starts with the psychedelic tone of alice in the desert, continues to a still hypnotic yet down to earth 020 and ends with the stabbing butt shaker think about it. the next releases will continue featuring picone & nidam, joined by cool cats like aquarius heaven, san proper & cesar merveille.

it is no secret that ben watt has chosen to close his acclaimed label buzzin fly to new music after ten great years as one of the uks leading dance independents. but the label has chosen to go out with a bang with one final single. unearthed from the vaults are two dazzling tracks from cornerstone artists, rodamaal, and manoo and francios a. rodamaals fortune was originally completed back in 2007 but scheduling problems prevented it from being released at the time. produced by the franco-portuguese trio (rocco, darkmountaingroups alex santos and manoo) it is a stark but emotionally-charged deep-techno masterpiece, that deserves its place alongside their other classics for the label, musica feliz and insomnia. on the flip, and originally produced in 2005, is other places a long-lost track by manoo and francois a. full of summer shimmer and heavy bass tones, it was produced by the duo during their heyday at the label, and was a secret favourite of label boss, ben watt. two perfect swansongs. buzz buzz.

chris spero (otherwise known as uk house and techno producer glimpse) and hypercolour co-founder and producer, alex jones, return once again as dense & pika to the hotflush fold with move your body back. having crept out of the shadows back in 2011 with a collection of white labels released through their own eponymous imprint, dense & pika went on to bolster their rising profile with the release of their hotflush debut (crispy duck) which landed late last year as well as with their memorable live set at hotflushs recent boiler room takeover. there is nothing chin-strokingly complicated or needlessly over-worked about their productions. they make interesting techno aimed at the dance floor and move your body back continues with this central aesthetic. the three track ep plunders percussive depths by way of stern machine rhythms, swollen low-end grit and the echoing, anthemic elements of warehouse rave techno. the title track of the ep may already be familiar to many having appeared on their resident advisor podcast in march and is already being played out by maya jane coles, boddika and adam beyer, amongst others.
